It is being said that traveling by air is the safest and fastest way of communication, but tragic incidents brought a revolution in the aviation industry to ensure its passengers and crew of its safety and reliability. Here is a list of the top ten worst airline disaster that not only took away with them hundreds of innocent people but also gave fear about traveling by air.
1. 9/11 Flights (2001)
The deadliest and worst air crash in history was 9/11 incident. When 4 planes hijacked and two of them American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 hit Twin Tower. In this incident, over 1700 and 1000 people killed respectively. It is a most dangerous accident in the list of top ten worst airline disaster.
2. Tenerife Airport Disaster (1977)
A massive demise of 583 people has witnessed the crash, because of a bomb explosion at one of the airport divert many flights at the Tenerife North Airport. Due to several misunderstandings-dense patches of fog and lack of visibility, the two Boeing collides with each other and only 61 could survive through this disaster.
3. Japan Airlines Flight 123 (1985)
The official cause of the Japan Airlines 123 was erroneous repair in the aircraft which had a tail strike accident 7 yrs before this incident by which its rear pressure bulkhead.
4. Charkhi Dadri Mid-Air Collision (1996)
It was the deadliest mid-air collision. The accident took place between a Kazakhstan Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing. Due to wrong distance measurement, the tail of the Kazakhstani plane cut through the Boeing’s wing and Boeing lost control, broke up, and crashed, killing everyone onboard. Another plane crash landed. Over 349 died in the crash.
5. Turkish Airlines Flight 981 (1974)
The crash happened because improperly secured cargo door at the back of the plane broke off which detached the cables necessary to control the aircraft. It was investigated that the handles on the hatches could have been forced shut without the latching pins locking appropriately. The baggage handler was unable to read the proper latching instructions in either English or Turkish.
6. American Airlines Flight 191 (1979)
The flight took off from O’Hare International Airport (Chicago), as the plane took off the engine on the left wing separated and pitched over the top of the wing. Separation of an engine associated with faulty maintenance procedures at American Airlines.
7. Iran Air Flight 655 (1988)
The incident leads by mistaken shot the civilian flight confusing it with Air Force Attacking Flight. Sue to this 290 passenger with a crew on board died.
8. Air India Express Flight 812 (2010)
The disaster took place because of pilot miscalculations of landing and landed beyond the usual touchdown point, making several errors. As a result, aircraft hurtled past the runway and fell over cliff causing the plane to disintegrate and catch fire, about 158 died and 8 were survivors.
9. American Airlines Flight 587 (2001)
The disaster occurred due to pilot error. The plane crashed into a neighborhood in Queens, New York, resulting from rudder overuse, vertical stabilizer detached from aircraft and engines were separated before it fell to the ground, killing 260 on board and 5 on ground.
10. Korean Airlines Flight 007(1983)
The disaster caused due to incorrect use of navigation system leads to Korean Airlines Flight 007 deviated from its route to Seoul and left it heading straight towards the Soviet Union.
